Kentucky Derby Odds to Win 2016

Oddsmakers expect the Kentucky Derby to be as competitive as it has been in years with a stunning nine horses listed at 12/1 or less.  As a point of reference, on race day of 2014, only four ponies had such short odds.

Nyquist is the very modest favorite at 7/2 but is followed very closely by Exaggerator placing at 4/1.  Showing as the third favorite is Mohaymen at 6/1, nosing out Mor Spirit at 7/1, Destin at 8/1, Gun Runner at 9/1, and Creator at 10/1.

The fall in near perfect sequential order as Suddenbreakingnews is 11/1 and Outwork at 12/1. The odds widen somewhat, though not much after that as Brodys Cause, Danzing Candy, My Man Sam, and Whitmore are all at 15/1.

Bob Warner of Lines-Maker.com did say that he cannot recall a major race in which, “Any of 15 horses could win without it being considered a stunning upset.”

Last year American Pharoah became the first horse since 1978 to win Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, but says Warner, “With the odds so tight this year, a repeat (Triple Crown winners) would be the biggest possible upset.”

The long shots commence with Mo Tom at 20/1, Lani and Shagaf are each at 25/1. Once entrants and post positions are announced, the odds will adjust accordingly. The Kentucky Derby is scheduled for May 8.
